Dr. Alan Manevitz

Alan Manevitz, M.D. is a clinical psychiatrist in New York City, where he maintains a private practice. Dr. Manevitz graduated from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his psychiatric residency at the Payne Whitney Clinic of the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, where he also completed an advanced psychopharmacology fellowship.

Currently, Dr. Manevitz is a clinical associate professor at Payne Whitney-Weill Cornell Medical Center, an attending psychiatrist at New York Presbyterian and Lenox Hill Hospitals, and teaches at the Weill-Cornell Medical School. Dr. Manevitz has been named amongst the Top Doctors in America by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., New York Time’s Super Doctors, New York Magazine’s Best Doctors, and Best Doctors of America.
Dr. Manevitz is recognized for his clinical skills and excellence in Marital, Family and Sex Therapy, complex issues involving medication (Advanced Psychopharmacology), and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD). He is also nationally and internationally recognized for his clinical skills in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He was on the emergency teams at the sites of the World Trade Center attacks in 1992 and September 11, 2001, NYC subway bombings, the TWA 800 and Swiss Air disasters and following Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Manevitz is a co-founder of the Ehrlich/Pearlman Fibromyalgia Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He has lectured on the clinical treatment of Fibromyalgia and Pain at the grand rounds and national meetings.
Dr. Manevitz has developed a reputation for consultation of difficult to diagnose patients and review of treatment resistant patients where he utilizes his knowledge of classic treatments and his experience as an early adapter to new medication and medical devices to quarterback innovative biopshychosocial integrated clinical strategies of treatment.
Dr. Manevitz has held a number of significant leadership positions, which have given him a rich and innovative experience in the worlds of administrative as well as clinical psychiatry. He has been the Associate Director of Training at NYH-Cornell, Chief of Education and Training at the Lenox Hill Hospital division of the School of Medicine and NYU, and Research Psychiatrist at NYH-Cornell in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health. He is also a founder and president of the National Mental Health Project (a foundation for the education of the public and professionals in psychiatric and public health issues), where he was the executive producer of the Emmy Award winning documentary “Recovery From Madness”. He chaired the residency committee of the NYC District of the American Psychiatric Association and has served on many community social programs, including Israel Bonds and Psychiatric Community Outreach. In 2004, Dr. Manevitz was honored for his clinical work by NARSAD (National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression) for his “outstanding clinical work, his role in educating the public in psychiatry and his noble heroism in volunteering in disaster situations.” In 2008, Dr. Manevitz was honored by the Riverdale Mental Health Association for his “contributions to the field of psychiatry and to the families and patients who suffer for mental illness.”
In 1999, he co-founded e-Shrinks, an innovative broadband company providing mental health services on the internet. He appears frequently on television and is interviewed on a broad range of topics by leading newspapers and magazines. Dr. Manevitz has been a psychiatric consultant to a number of businesses, and has appeared on national financial networks to discuss the psychology of the stock market and the irrationality of investor expectations. He is also a co-founder and Managing Member of The Doctors’ Investment Fund, L.L.C. and Mar Advisors, L.L.C.
